Top Superhero Comedy Movies – Since the early 2000s, superhero films have been undisputed box office juggernauts. Thanks to advances in CGI and VFX, filmmakers can now bring the larger-than-life storytelling of superhero characters from comic books to the big screen in spectacular action adventure films. While Hollywood is taking superhero movies more seriously these days, the genre itself offers plenty of potential for comedy.Â
Top Superhero Comedy Movies
DeadpoolÂ
Few superhero films have been as groundbreaking as 2016’s Deadpool. In fact, the picture was regarded so groundbreaking that Hollywood refused to release it for a decade until test video from the film was leaked on the internet. All of this is due to the fact that Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, is a superhero unlike any other. An assassin with regenerative abilities and a fourth-wall-breaking sense of humour.Â
Thor: RagnarokÂ
After the second Thor film received mixed reviews, fans were eager for a fresh perspective on the MCU’s God of Thunder. And boy, did they deliver in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok. The previous two Thor films’ Shakespearean melancholy had vanished, replaced with a colorful and raucous episode of Flash Gordon on steroids.Â
Chris Hemsworth is having a blast playing this new Thor as a well-meaning himbo who is overwhelmed by the arrival of his malevolent and powerful sister Hela. A slew of secondary characters, including Loki and Odin, get humorous makeovers.Â
Guardians of the Galaxy
Â
Guardians of the Galaxy has done more to define the MCU’s direction than any other film. Prior to the film, the MCU had a wide range of projects, but Guardians was so well received by viewers and critics alike that the MCU unofficially made it a rule that all future films will include witty protagonists, tongue-in-cheek comedy, and plenty of self-aware references.Â
The Suicide SquadÂ
Following his success in the MCU, filmmaker James Gunn lent his talents to the floundering DCEU. In The Suicide Squad, Gunn chose to remake the relatively obscure Taskforce X rather than go after the major names. The Suicide Squad, like Guardians of the Galaxy, is about a squad of criminals attempting to achieve a mission for their own selfish reasons.Â
Mystery MenÂ
Before the MCU, superhero movies were an uncommon occurrence, and the majority of superhero films were low-budget affairs. Mystery Men, released in 1999, takes advantage of this fact to construct a story about b-grade superheroes attempting to fulfill their mission in the face of an unsympathetic world that sees them as losers rather than messiahs.Â
Mr. Furious is a street-level hero who aspires to join his equally low-level vigilante comrades in the superhuman big leagues. When the heinous supervillain Casanova Frankenstein escapes from prison, his first target is the city’s top superhero, Captain Amazing. Mr. Furious and his buddies devise a scheme to save Amazing from Casanova. But, in order to outmuscle the supervillain, they’ll have to go through a funny recruitment and training process to gather every existing superhero.Â
Superhero Movie (2008)
Following in the wake of the hugely successful Scary Movie franchise, parody movies were all the rage in the 2000s. Almost every popular genre had its own parody, and the superhero genre’s spoof was 2008’s Superhero Movie. The story of Rick Riker, a figure with Batman’s background and Spider-Man’s broad backstory, is aimed towards Marvel and DC Comics characters.Â
MegamindÂ
Animated superhero movies aren’t as common as live-action ones, but the format allows writers to go all out with superhero stories in ways that live-action can’t. This is the case with Megamind, which unfolds like a Superman film that isn’t just another origin narrative. Metro Man, Earth’s greatest protector, lives in Metro City, as does the greatest super villain, Megamind.Â
The IncrediblesÂ
Marvel has failed to produce an engaging Fantastic Four film. However, Pixar beat them to the punch with The Incredibles. Superheroes are common in an other reality. So much so that the government is obliged to pass legislation requiring heroes to reveal their true names and abandon their vigilantism. Mr. Incredible and Elasti-Girl are two such superhumans who give up their superpowers to live a normal life.Â

The MaskÂ
Jim Carrey is not the typical choice for a superhero role. Carrey did, however, star in the hugely successful superhero film The Mask. Carrey plays Stanley Ipkiss, a hapless bank employee who one day discovers a magical mask that grants the user reality-bending powers. As a result, Ipkiss changes into The Mask, a green-faced sprite who wreaks havoc on his city.Â
