Top Hollywood shows
The Last of UsÂ
In a world with no shortage of zombie survival shows and movies, The Last of Us, a series about the global zombie outbreak, sets new standards. Produced by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin and starring Pedro Pascal and Vera Ramsey, the series is a great example of what a successful video game adaptation looks like. It follows Joel and Ellie as they embark on a dystopian journey, the former searching for her brother and the latter seeking answers as to why she is immune to this germ. The show has many highlights where players will be impressed by the creators’ attention to detail. But what stood out was the adorable father-daughter-like bond between the starring roles. From yearning for Pascal to enjoying the game’s Easter eggs, there’s something for everyone. Â
Succession Season 4Â
Just when we thought Succession couldn’t get any better, the final season delivered with a bang. The family drama about imperfect wealthy people, created by Jesse Armstrong, is maybe the best program out there. It’s one of those shows that, like Game of Thrones, people have watched together. When was the last time that happened? Season 4 allows each character to shine in their own manner and provides us with some memorable TV sequences. The show has only built on its main theme by the finale, making it even better. It’s a must-see that few people have seen.Â
BeefÂ
Beef is a tutorial in how to escalate a disagreement to its logical conclusion. The Lee Sung Jin serial concentrates mostly around two people, Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) and Amy Lau (Ali Wong), who cross paths in a road rage incident that goes viral. Beef then accelerates and doesn’t stop. As the titular beef intensifies, so does the show. Underneath all of its fascinating layers, the plot highlights some significant issues of Asian angst, the migrant experience, the class barrier, and what loneliness can do to a person. Cho and Wong deliver remarkable performances that have had viewers enthralled from episode one. The show’s admirers are clamoring for a second season. Â
However, in the midst of the scandal surrounding cast member David Choe, who was fired for describing rape, Beef’s destiny becomes questionable.Â
Jury DutyÂ
Jury Duty almost went under the radar due to its innovative idea and scant marketing. The show is essentially a hoax mockumentary about a man on jury duty. While he is sincerely appearing in court, he is unaware that everyone else around him is a hired actor. The show features some fantastic actors playing fictitious jury members and government officials, including a funny James Marsden. While the pitch note for this series might not sound particularly encouraging, it does emerge as an unusual winner. A good watch from start to finish.Â
Dead RingersÂ
A medical thriller might not be everyone’s cup of tea but Dead Ringers has a major factor going for it – not one but two Rachel Weisz performances. It follows Elliot and Beverly, twin gynecologists with distinct personalities who are out to revolutionize the birthing process. The show has a fair share of unsettling visuals but from audiences’ reactions, it’s not enough to make one skip the brilliant series.Â
