Cannes red carpet looks – Cannes, the world’s most prestigious film festival, returns for the 76th time. The Promenade de la Croisette will host buzzy premieres from Hollywood’s most prominent directors, from Martin Scorsese to Wes Anderson, during the next 11 days, as well as A-list celebrities on one of the industry’s most-watched red carpets.
Cannes red carpet looks
A lot of actors are making their Cannes debuts this year, and they may be eager to make a striking sartorial impression. Jennie Kim of Blackpink will walk the red carpet for the first time to promote her first acting role in the new Sam Levinson series “The Idol,” which premieres at the festival next week. Rachel Sennott is a rising star who debuted in the independent film “Shiva Baby” (2020) and A24’s dark comedy “Dark City” (2019).
As is always the case in these situations, fashion is a high-stakes mode of communication. Johnny Depp made his first Cannes appearance on Tuesday since his high-profile defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard in 2022 (a Virginia jury found both parties guilty for slander). For his polarising entrance, Depp dressed down in a black tuxedo, a high collar dress shirt, and blue-tinted spectacles.
For more than seven decades, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Diana, and Madonna have graced the Croisette’s legendary red carpet. The festivities have long been as much about fashion as they are about films, and the amount of spectacle has only grown.
