Evil Dead Rise Cast and Characters
Lily Sullivan
Lily Sullivan plays Beth, a guitar technician and roadie who arrives up suddenly at her estranged sister Ellie’s dilapidated Los Angeles apartment after hearing life-changing news. It doesn’t take long, however, for this family gathering to be shattered by the appearance of horrifying flesh-possessing demons hellbent on tearing Lily and her family apart, both metaphorically and physically.
Lily Sullivan made her feature debut opposite Toni Collette in the P.J. Hogan-directed Mental in 2012, for which she got an AACTA Award nomination for Best Young Actor. Sullivan would go on to feature in the survival thriller Jungle, starring with Daniel Radcliffe, before landing lead parts in successful TV versions of Australian film classics Romper Stomper and Picnic at Hanging Rock.
Alyssa Sutherland
Alyssa Sutherland plays Ellie, a newly divorced mother of three children who is counting down the days before her decrepit apartment complex is demolished. When Ellie’s estranged sister Lily unexpectedly shows up at her home, their family reunion is cut short when violent flesh-possessing demons trap her in their crimson clutches, leading in a night of unending misery for her family.
Following a successful modeling career, Australian actress Alyssa Sutherland turned to an equally successful career in cinema and television, beginning with a modest role in The Devil Wears Prada. Sutherland’s breakout role was Queen Aslaug in the History Channel series Vikings. Sutherland’s next role would be in the television version of Stephen King’s horror science fiction thriller The Mist.
Morgan Davies
Danny, Ellie’s oldest child, is played by Morgan Davies, and his “do first, think second” mindset frequently gets him into trouble. Danny discovers a curious book made of human flesh featuring bizarre phrases and images scrawled in blood after an earthquake unveils a hidden room packed with crucifixes in his decrepit Los Angeles apartment building. Danny will quickly discover that this book is a portal to Hell, bringing with it a gruesome and hungry evil that threatens his family.
Gabrielle Echols
Bridget is played by Gabrielle Echols, the middle kid who is also the most pragmatic of Ellie’s brood and has a strong protective instinct for her younger sister Kassie. Gabriele strives to protect Kassie from the horrors perpetrated on her family after her elder brother Danny unwittingly releases a swarm of flesh-possessing demons.
Evil Dead Rise Review
In terms of horror franchises, “Evil Dead” has achieved the unthinkable: there has yet to be a terrible film bearing its name. Much of this is due to series creator Sam Raimi, who is so choosy about who he lets play with his funky blood-soaked kid that there have only been five “Evil Dead” films in the past four decades. But it’s also the essential simplicity of its premise—with the exception of the completely insane “Army of Darkness”—that makes “Evil Dead” just work
The latest installment in the series, “Evil Dead Rise,” is directed by Irish writer/director Lee Cronin, whose 2019 feature debut “The Hole in the Ground” likewise deals with sinkholes and motherhood concerns. Cronin’s gritty sensibility is considerably more akin to that of the remake.
Evil Dead Rise Summary
The setting switches from a group of pals in a cabin in the woods to a family living in a run-down apartment building in downtown Los Angeles in this film. And when single mother Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) gets possessed by a Deadite early in the film, what follows is even more terrible since Ellie is psychologically and physically tormenting her own children. Kassie (Nell Fisher), her youngest, is also fairly young—not that the fates of her siblings, Danny (Morgan Davies) and Bridget (Gabrielle Echols), are any less awful because they’re teens. “Evil Dead Rise” extracts a lot of sicko juice from violence against children, which, when combined with the excessive gore, makes for a taxing experience.
