Asur: Welcome To Your Dark Side (IMDb rating 8.5) 

Arshad Warsi’s psychological thriller premiered in March 2020. Since then, the show, which follows a team of forensic professionals on the hunt for a serial killer, has left viewers wanting more. The second season began on Jio Cinema in June 2023, with actors Warsi and Barun Sobti taking on a new case flavored with vengeance. 

Farzi (IMDb rating 8.4) 

This compelling criminal thriller from The Family Man creators Raj & DK made Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi’s OTT debut earlier this year. Kapoor plays a counterfeiter who is on the run from Sethupathi’s special investigator. The duo will be back for a second season on Amazon Prime Video. 

Jubilee (IMDb rating 8.3) 

Jubilee, Vikramaditya Motwane’s huge passion project, is a vast, albeit fictional, look at the burgeoning Indian film industry. Characters bitten by the fame bug are played by Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aparshakti Khurana, Sidhant Gupta, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The Amazon Prime Video period series has enough drama to keep you fascinated while remaining historically accurate.

Taaza Khabar (IMDb rating 8.1) 

Bhuvan Bam, a YouTuber, made his OTT debut in January with Disney+ Hotstar’s Taaza Khabar. Bam stars in the fantasy dramedy series as a young man from the slums whose life is transformed by a blessing. Taaza Khabar, which also stars Shriya Pilgaonkar, JD Chakravarthy, Deven Bhojani, Prathmesh Parab, and Mahesh Manjrekar, is a contemplative show centered on its rags-to-riches hero. 

Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo (IMDb rating 7.7) 

Dimple Kapadia, Isha Talwar, Angira Dhar, and Radhika Madan play members of a female family who run a drug empire in the fictional state of Runjh Pradesh. When Kapadia’s cartel and empire are threatened, everyone looks to Rani Ba to name an heir. This explosive Hindi criminal saga, directed by Homi Adajania, is available on Disney+ Hotstar. 

The Night Manager (IMDb rating 7.6) 

Anil Kapoor plays a cruel arms dealer who accepts an unknown man named Shaan (Aditya Roy Kapur) after he saves his son’s life. He has no idea that Shaan has been hired by RAW to track his unlawful actions. This Indian version of the critically acclaimed British series, which was released in two parts, is now available on Disney+ Hotstar. 

Dahaad (IMDb rating 7.6) 

Three police detectives struggle to draw the dots between a murderous serial killer and countless missing and dead women in this compelling crime drama set in Rajasthan. Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar created Amazon Prime Video’s Dahaad, which stars Sonakshi Sinha, Gulshan Devaiah, Vijay Varma, and Sohum Shah. 

Rana Naidu (IMDb rating 7) 

Venkatesh Daggubati and Rana Daggubati, real-life uncle and nephew, play father and son in the Telugu Netflix drama. This remake of the American television series Ray Donovan was one of the most popular Indian shows on the global streaming site. The second season is expected to begin production in early 2024. 

Taj: Divided By Blood (IMDb rating 6.9)  

This Zee5 period drama is set in the 16th century and revolves around Emperor Akbar and his choice to declare a successor. The drama series, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Aashim Gulati, and Aditi Rao Hydari, depicts a tension triangle between Akbar, his son Prince Salim, and the beautiful Anarkali. The first two seasons of the Mughal drama debuted in the first half of the year.
